Self-Evident Truths

"We hold these truths to be self evident . . ." With these words, Jefferson began to write our now, very familiar and famous Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We agree with Jefferson and our nations founders, that there are indeed, many truths, especially the self-evident truth of a Creator. Another self-evident truth, regards the proper understanding of what science is, as well as the natural division of true science.

So, what are the divisions, and why are they so self-evident? First, we must give a brief working definition of science and the methods that it uses. The word 'science' simply means 'knowledge', however, this seems really broad and is not a definition we can use to explain how this process of testing our knowledge actually works. So, a method used to test our knowledge has been used for many years called 'the scientific method'. This method, called 'Observational Science', or 'Experimental Science', involves being able to test the ideas that we have. They include the important idea of all of these ideas being, repeatable, observable and falsifiable. What good is any idea that cannot be verified by anyone else?

And so, we who hold to a Biblical Worldview, find it vitally important to stress this hugely important truth. Creation Scientists for years have participated in this first form of science called 'observational science'. They have written many, many peer reviewed articles, and been involved in key inventions of our time, such as the MRI machine. This is the proper use of science, and can be very beneficial for all of us.

However, the second important type of science is called 'Historical Science', sometimes called 'Origins Science', or just 'History'. This is a type of science that CANNOT be repeated, observed or be falsifiable. So, we have moved from the scientific method to something else. These so-called truths can only be verified and reported on by a reliable eye-witness. We have such a witness in the Creator who gave us His Word in The Bible.
